Every year our church's youth competes in the Free WIll Baptist National Youth Conference with other churches across the country in Bible Memorization, Bible Sword Drill, various Bible trivia and knowledge competitions, and a host of creative arts categories like singing, art, writing and instrumental music. While these events offer a competitive atmosphere for the kids, the primary goal is to be a ministry development tool for the youth in local churches and at home.

Competing in these events help kids improve their knowledge of the Bible and develop their God-given skills and talents for use in His ministry in their local church when they become adults. Even though each team has a coach, the parents are also responsible for teaching their kids at home to help them succeed in competition. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 commands parents to love God, His Word, and to teach their children to do the same. Helping your child learn the material not only prepares them for the events against other children, it more importantly provides them with a solid foundation on which to stand later on in life.

Not only are the activities good for a child learning the Word of God or using their abilities to glorify Him, but they also surround them with good, Christian friends; most of which will last a lifetime. The memories made and time spent serving God is something both the parents and their children cherish for the rest of their lives. Winning is just icing on the cake.
